Import a bank statement

A bank statement import brings the lines of a CSV or Excel file your bank exports into Bank transactions. An imported line is not in your books yet: posting it to an account books a journal entry against the bank account.

Upload the CSV your bank exports and its lines land in Bank transactions. Post each line to an account to put it in your books.

Before you start

Steps

  1. Open Bank transactions under Accounting and choose Import statement.

    Open in the app

  2. Pick the bank or credit-card account, then the file. Its columns are matched for you; check them and the date order.

  3. Import the statement. Lines already imported are skipped, so an overlapping statement only adds what is new.

  4. Open a line and choose Post to account to book it against an income or expense account.

    Open in the app

Check it worked

The import notice on Bank transactions says how many lines were imported, how many were already there and skipped, and which rows could not be read. A posted line shows the Posted status and links to its journal entry. To undo an import with the wrong columns, delete its unposted lines and import the file again.
