Post bank lines with rules

A rule posts the bank lines it matches to one account, so a recurring line such as a bank fee or a software bill never waits for you. A line matches when its description contains any one of the rule's words and every other condition you set holds: the direction the money moved and an amount range over the line's size.

A rule posts every imported bank line it matches to the account you choose, so you stop posting the same kind of line by hand.

Before you start

Steps

  1. Open Bank transactions under Accounting, choose the Rules tab, then New rule.

    Open in the app

  2. Name it, pick the account it posts to, and set its conditions: words the description contains, the direction and an amount range.

  3. Set its priority. When two rules match a line, the lower number posts it.

  4. New imports are posted as they arrive. Choose Apply rules from the More actions menu to post the lines already waiting that were never posted.

    Open in the app

Check it worked

Apply rules says how many lines it posted. Each rule on the Rules page shows how many lines it has posted that are still in your books, and a posted line in Bank transactions shows the Posted status. A line whose posting you reversed is left for you, even when a rule matches it. Turn a rule off to stop it posting without losing it.
