Check your books with the trial balance

The trial balance lists every account that has a balance on the date you pick, each in its debit or credit column. When the two totals match, your books balance.

Steps

1. Open Trial balance under Accounting and pick the date to read balances at.

2. Starting your books mid-year? Enter a new account's opening balance when you create it, or post a journal against opening balance equity for an existing one.

3. If a notice says your books do not tie out, the entries or accounts it names were written outside the app. Correct them with a journal entry.

Check it worked

The difference reads zero and no notice sits above the summary. An account you opened with an opening balance shows that balance from its as-of date on.
