Sell to a customer outside a marketplace
A customer is someone you sell to directly, such as a wholesale buyer. Keeping them here means a new order can take their name, email and payment terms, and the order shows when it falls due.
Add a customer once with their payment terms, then pick them on a new order. The order takes their terms and due date, and its cost reaches your books. Invoice the order and track what is still owed.
Steps
-
Add a customer with their payment terms.
-
Start a new order and pick the customer.
-
Open the order and choose Create invoice, then email it or print it as a PDF.
-
Record the payment when it arrives, or accept the invoice a bank line offers.
-
See who still owes you, by how late, in Receivables by age.
Check it worked
The order shows the customer's name and a due date, and the customer appears under Sales, Customers. With Accounting on, the cost of the goods you sold reaches your books as Cost of goods sold, and Inventory falls by the same amount.
An invoice raised from the order shows its number, due date and balance, and a payment lowers the balance. With Accounting on, the invoice is booked as money owed to you until it is paid, and Receivables by age lists each customer's balance by how late it is.
