Add your product costs

Until a product has a cost behind it, every sale of it reports its whole sale price as profit. This is the single most common reason a report reads better than the business actually did, and it is fixed by entering what each unit costs you.

Add a cost to one product

  1. Go to Products and open the product.
  2. Enter the unit cost, and the date it applies from.
  3. Save.

Costs are dated on purpose. An order is costed with the price that applied on the day it sold, so changing a cost today does not silently rewrite last quarter's profit.

Add costs to many products at once

  1. Go to Products.
  2. Click Upload costs.
  3. Download the template, fill in a row per SKU, and upload it.

Add the costs that are not per-unit

Some costs belong to every order rather than to one SKU — a pick fee you pay yourself, packaging, a handling charge.

  1. Go to Settings → Costs and pricing.
  2. Click Add cost component and describe what it applies to.

Check it worked

Open Profit. Days that were reading as fully settled with no cost behind them should now show a real margin rather than an inflated one. If a figure still looks wrong, the Fee coverage filter tells you whether the marketplace's own fees have arrived yet — see Profit basis.
